Web Safety for Kids and the Family Seminars

Keep Your Family Safe Online
About five years ago, there were only a few million Internet users in the Philippines. But today, it is about a fourth of the Philippine population with at least 25 million. Indeed, online or web safety for kids needs more attention.

Sonnie Santos
I met Sonnie Santos of Santos.ph not too long ago and was recently invited to be part of his seminar on web safety. Having read his thoughts from his blogs and being an Internet professional myself, I thought his endeavor was worthwhile and worth checking out.

I attended his "Keep Your Family Safe Online" seminar for the first time back in July and it was a success. He discussed about the relevance and the "how to" of online safety for kids and families. There were also two other speakers - Carlo Ople and Chay Mondejar-Saputil and who discussed about online games and tools to guard or monitor your kid's online behavior.

The project was conceptualized by Sonnie Santos with the realization that "If adults are affected by their irresponsible or ignorant use of the web, how much more are kids?" He envisions WebSafetyforParents.org to become a site that will "serve as a resource page for parents and teens who wish to learn basic safety tips when navigating the web."
