Two Best Blogger Events for 2009

I would just have to rave about what I consider were the 2 best blogger events for 2009.

First is the 5-Day Nescafe Soundschool Concerts and workshops in Boracay.

Those who know me personally knows that I also maintain a separate travel blog and food blog. This Boracay event just covered it all. The pop culture event and concerts were for Digital Manila while the Boracay travel experience was for Let's Go Sago! We dined in different hubs around the island which just loaded NomNom Club food blog with a long list of blogs-to-write. If my laptop was just not stolen 3 weeks ago, i would still have hundreds of my photos. Sadly, I lost 90% of it and only retained the last day because it was left in my SD card. :(
The other one is my best international blog event (aside from the fact that it is the only one). :) It's Nuffnang's First Asia-Pacific Blog Awards held in Singapore. The three-day event composed of the awards night, a Singapore City blogger's day tour and a free day. It was my first international blog event together with the Philippine contingent interacting with bloggers of other nations including Malaysia, Australia, and of course, Singapore.
Those two were the best local and international blogger events for me in 2009. Thanks to Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, Manila and Nuffnang Phillipines.

And the Samsung Mobile Phone Winner is....

Today is the day we announce the Abenson's Paskong Pinoy Online Promo where we will be giving away a Samsung mobile phone to one of the 101 comment participants.

First, thank you all for participating. It took me and my guest blogger more than three hours in total to read through all the comments. Although they are just comments, some entries were as long as a blog post. :)

Second, I would like to reveal my mystery guest blogger judge. She is a known fashion blogger in the online community with Style and Relax. She is a now a new mom blogger and has started her own new mommy blog
Mommylace.blogspot.com. Thank you Lace Llanora for helping out co-judge this contest.

Many entries were very creative and convincing on how their chosen Abenson Christmas Package fits the Paskong Pinoy lifestyle. Many cited the Pinoy's love for food and cooking this holiday season, as well as their fondness for music and the television.

We first identified the outstanding ones and ended up with the Top 16. They are: (in no particular order) animetric, shalomsiy, adriancajayon, Heidi Lanzador, ellenjoycastel, heartlocks19, Cheftonio, silverscreensurfer, ellenjoycastel, vivianaguilar, calai618, joysantos, Bryan, Rina Alcantara, mprrortega, philos).

However, just like in any contest, there is only one emerging grand winner. The total scores actually ended up with a tie between two entries. It would be impractical to give them half phones each so I had to break the tie and choose one winner.

And the Abenson Paskong Pinoy winner whose Christmas and New Year will be merry and bright with a new Samsung mobile phone is mprrortega whose entry came in 10 minutes before the end of the contest. :) And her entry is:

"Boom Tarat Tarat" man o "Ikaw na Nga"

http://www.facebook.com/people/Abenson-Paskong-Pinoy/100000463566769
Congratulations!
You would be contacted by Digital Manila through your email on how to claim your prize and the model they would be giving. Honestly speaking, I think you would be able to claim this sometime January of 2010. This is because we have to process your prize in cooperation with Abenson itself and PR company Geiser Maclang after the holiday frenzy. But look at the brighter side, you'd have a brand new spanking Samsung mobile phone with the entry of the new year! :)

History and Betrayal

History is one of my least-liked subjects back in school. I despise the fact that I have to memorize names of people I don't know personally - the 'who', the places they have been to - the 'where', and the dates they happened - the 'when'.

On the other hand, I appreciated the 'Why.' I believed that in every thing that occurred, it was caused by something.

And it is interesting to analyze and know 'why it happened'.

Reading a particular blog lately reminded me that what truly transpired in history may not always be how we were molded to perceive it.

Discovering other accounts and perspectives from visiting museums and art galleries can be an eye opener as well.

The recent Zero in Periphery exhibit involving 4 museums and 1 art gallery was one such. Let us take a closer look at some of them.
A striking fact from the Deleted Scenes of the Lopez Memorial Museum which can betray your history would be the fact that more Filipinos were killed between 1899 and 1913, the time of the Americans, than during the centuries-long stay of the Spaniards.
The second museum exhibit is that of Invisible Children at the Museo Pambata. The exhibit is ongoing until December 20, 2009. It focuses on children's rights and the difficulties they are going through.

The middle row shows photos of Imelda Marcos
launching a line of fashion accessories. (Ateneo Art Gallery)

And lastly, the Beyond Media exhibit at the Ateneo Art Gallery showcased photographs which gave snapshots of the past and eventually defining our present day situation. This exhibit is ongoing until December 15, 2009.

New Friendster Goes Green on Dec 4

The new Friendster has finally revealed its new look and user interface in advance to the online community via a soft launch last night at Greenbelt 3 in Makati City, Philippines

Friendster.com perhaps chose the Philippines for being the recognized new social networking capital of the world.

The Green Day

Rolling out mid-day of Decemeber 4, 2009 (GMT +8) worldwide, the new Friendster.com mainly takes on a green and white color theme in contrast to its closest rival's blue and white theme. The Friendster logo with a tilted regular smiley face also gets a rehash into something more flowing. The whole word 'friendster' is also now part of the official logo printed in script-like font
The new Friendster promises more games and interaction as it introduces new features around the concept of 'fun' and 'simplicity'. It also intends to focus and leverage on it's local advantage in terms of knowledge, exposure, and content.

Moreover, it is retaining one of its key features which initially brought Friendster.com in cyberspace's spotlight with it's customizable profile page. In fact, if you are not so much of a 'green' person, you can change the color scheme into blue or customize it to another color.

Friendster Wallet

Furthermore, the new Frienster.com website introduces the concept of Friendster Wallet with Friendster Coins and Friendster Chips. We'll have a separate blog entry discussing these in details. But for now, think of it as your online money with which you could purchase more advanced gaming weapons in addition to the free basic ones. You could also reload the wallet with a pre-paid reloading card.

Here are some photos of how the New Friendster looks like:

Care for some Friendster doughnuts from Krispy Kreme?

Ben Dunn, VP Philippines and Global Head of Brand Experirence, led the New Friendster layout and user interface presentation.
